One child is dead and two adults were hurt in a shooting Monday morning in Clay County, and authorities have reportedly made an arrest. A bus driver stopped to pick up kids at a residence when a child and a woman boarded the vehicle, the Tennessean reported. The woman had been shot and the child was not hurt.

The driver rushed them to a fire station and deputies were called shortly thereafter, the newspaper reported. They found a male suffering from gunshot wounds outside the house as well as a child who was killed during the incident.

A man ran off into a wooded area after the shooting near North Fork Road and Crabtree Creek Road. The state Bureau of Investigation later said he had been arrested and there was no further threat to the public.

A spokeswoman for the agency later told reporters the man had been staying on the property and was working for the male victim.
The names of the victims haven’t been released.

Multiple media outlets reported that Clay County Schools were placed on a “soft” lockdown during the incident. Clay County is about 72 miles northeast of Nashville.
